The next installment in our Travel & Adventure Story Series comes from a client who recently explored the beautiful region of Puglia, Italy.

Most travelers to Italy choose to visit Rome, Venice, Florence, or another well-known city. This year we decided to check out the area known as Puglia, which, on the map, is the heel of the Italian “boot.” As the pictures show, Puglia is a beautiful mix of small, primarily coastal towns. We started in Bari, the largest city in Puglia, and traveled to a number of beautiful small towns, including Locorotondo, Cisterino, Lecce, Polignano a Mare, Monopolio, Aerobello, Matera, and Ostuni. The coastal towns were easy to reach by train from Bari, while we needed to rent a car to visit the inland towns. Rather than face the summer heat and the mobs of tourists, we waited to go until October, by which time we had no trouble finding parking and accommodations. Needless to say, the food was fantastic! Italians are warm and friendly and at no point did we feel a lack of safety, even though our knowledge of Italian was rather rudimentary. Puglia takes you out of the “comfort zone” of more touristy places like Venice and Rome, but it was easy to navigate and well worth the effort.
